On Saturday, we bested United FC Binghamton 5-0, with two goals by Bri Smith, and single goals by Caitie Pfeiffer, Bella Mitrevski and Sam Engel, while Sarah Moore, our other goalkeeper, earned us the shut-out. On Sunday we played Yankee Lady FC. It was a hard-fought game against another talented team, and we won 3-1, with goals by Bri Smith, Alex Rohloff, and Molly Curry. This game, in particular, showed our perseverance and desire to win. We were down 1-0 with less than a minute into the first half and battled back to change the momentum of the game and, ultimately, culminate in a 3-1 win.
The mental game is one of the toughest components of being an athlete, let alone a goalkeeper. Confidence is key, as well as staying connected and focused throughout the game, whether there are fifty shots or two shots. Sunday’s game was a real test, as I was called upon to make a diving save in the first half, cut off various through balls with Yankee FC’s extremely fast forwards running on, and a breakaway save and box a corner kick in the second half to preserve the lead. In addition, we had a solid performance from the Revs defense for both games. This victory allowed us to improve our standing from third place to second plan in the conference. We have high hopes for this inaugural season, and this past weekend was crucial in positioning ourselves for a potential playoff run with a very respectable 4 -1 record.
Next up, we have two important road games this coming weekend, Yankee Lady FC again on Saturday, June 22nd and FC Westchester, who is currently third in our conference, on Sunday, June 23rd. Stay tuned and check our Empire Revs website and other social media outlets for updates on those games AS WELL AS the inside scoop on REVS travel experience!
As always, THANK YOU for your continued support throughout our season!
